Sarah & Ernie

A short time before I met Sarah and her family I received a text message. It was mid-afternoon, she had just stumbled across my Instagram account and had very sweet things to say about my art. She was looking to capture a maternity shoot with her partner Ernie, his young daughter Nevaeh, and their dedicated protector, Lily the dog. We quickly set a date and time for a maternity shoot and it only took a few quick exchanges for me to know I had just met a very warm and special family.

Upon first meeting I could tell Sarah was a bit nervous so I started with the easy stuff, I asked little Nevaeh how old she was and followed it up with every question I could think of pertaining to Lily. Just like that Nevaeh started chatting and the ice was broken. As we eased into the set I wanted to get a few shots of the young girl with the mother to be. Neveah and Sarah obliged, but Nevaeh was starting to become a bit shy. I asked her if she would give her baby brother a kiss for me. She ran to Sarah and kissed her belly, sparkle and excitement returning to her eyes! It was so apparent to me that despite being a “blended family” there wasn’t anything blended at all. The love and bond these 3 share is as natural as could be. The afternoon quickly passed and we were blessed with some of the most amazing lighting I have ever captured. Wrapped in the love and excitement and fun of the shoot I had to share some of the digital shots with the family. The look of awe on their faces as I showed them the screen on my camera is a moment that will stay with me through my career. It was exactly why I love what I do.

Sarah, her partner Ernie, Nevaeh and Lily are welcoming baby Julian within the month and I couldn’t be happier for them. I wish a lifetime of love for the new little family, but I’m already certain they’ve got the recipe for that down pat.
